Sexy woman ("Miss Fury") on cloud, wearing a cape and holding a skull
4.5 inches

The history of the "Fightin' Furies" began with the constitution of the 1st Fighter Squadron on October 5, 1944 and its activation as part of the 413th Fighter Group on October 15, 1945.

The 1st Fighter Squadron, AAF flew P-47 Thunderbolt aircraft during World War II.

While based on Ie Shima, an island near Okinawa, the 1 FS fought against the Japanese - launching their P47 Thunderbolts on  almost 1,200 combat air patrol, bombing, strafing, and escort missions. The woman on the squadron insignia in WWII was "Miss Fury" - the mythical Greek goddess of vengeance. The 1st Fighter Squadron was deactivated on October 15, 1946, after WWII had ended.
